Every now and then, Bayern Munich meets an opponent that completely shuts down the attack. In the 2024/25 campaign, Bayern only suffered four clean sheets: Bayer Leverkusen twice, Aston Villa, and Feyenoord.

It is always interesting to hear which individual defenders can give the elite attackers a hard time. For example, Bayern legend Philipp Lahm is a common answer among his generation.

In a recent interview, Jamal Musiala quickly offered his choice as the best defender he has played against as a professional.

“Antonio Rüdiger,” answered Musiala (via @iMiaSanMia). “We played against Real Madrid in the Champions League and that was quite tough. I’ve known him for quite a few years. And, yeah, it’s not nice to play against him.”

It is not surprising that Musiala picked a teammate that he has encountered on the practice pitch and inside a stadium.

As a Bayern fan, who do you think is the best defender in the world right now?
