49ers practice report: Why safety Ji’Ayir Brown has been in QBs room with Brock Purdy (paywall)

“Steve Wilks was one of my guys,” Brown said. “It was different my second year going into it with a new DC. A different style. Different messages.”

Brown has taken a different off-the-field approach in his bid to rebound this season. During OTA practices, he spent time in meetings with the quarterbacks and wide receivers to gain a deeper understanding of how offenses attack.

“I do a lot of listening,” Brown

said. “Listening to Kyle speak. Listening to (quarterback Brock Purdy’s) rebuttal … just hearing them talk and how they are trying to manipulate Cover 3, Cover 4. Paying attention to what they see from the defense and knowing exactly what they are going to do depending on defensive leverage, or defensive scheme and play call.”

Why Ricky Pearsall, finally back from injury, is so key to 49ers’ passing attack (paywall)

Pearsall seemed noticeably bulked up during his media appearance Thursday and said he made beating tight, physical coverage a priority this offseason.

“There’s a lot of one-on-one opportunities out there and you’ve got to win your matchups,” he said. “That was my biggest takeaway going into the offseason.”........“Those practices in between the games — that was like my training camp,” he said. “I’m a practice player and I love practicing. You know, going out there you get to try (stuff) and you get to learn from it.”

His recovery from the gunshot wound — and his remarkably upbeat attitude since the ordeal — also makes his 2025 story one of the NFL’s most interesting.

Pearsall acknowledges he thinks about the botched robbery “every single night I go to bed” but said he strives to put it in as positive a light as possible. He said he’s not quite ready to meet the teenager suspected of shooting him but is open to that in the future.”

Kyle Shanahan provides 49ers training camp updates after practice No. 7

“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Thursday, after the team’s seventh practice of training camp. Here is everything he had to say.”

49ers roster moves: Additions at WR, QB, and RB; Ben Bartch activated

“The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed RB Ameer Abdullah, QB Carter Bradley, WR Marquez Callaway, and WR Andy Isabella to one-year deals. Interestingly, Bradley is the son of 49ers assistant head coach Gus Bradley.”

The Good and Not So Good from 49ers Camp: Wide Receiver Out Indefinitely

“All of his reps during 1-on-1 drills are violent. He may not win every time, although he wins most times — but win or lose, he creates a huge collision and he almost never loses his balance. I could put him in the good section every day. He’s easily their best rookie right now.”
