Derrick Lewis was a significant underdog coming into the UFC Nashville main event last weekend in “Music City,” but urged MMA fans to bet on him anyway, suggesting his outcome against Tallison Teixeira was “scripted” in favor of “The Black Beast.”
“It’s scripted,” Lewis previously told Ariel Helwani. “It’s part of the script. The whole UFC is scripted. It’s part of the plan, so July 12th, they want me to win by first-round knockout.”

Lewis, 40, went on to win by first-round
knockout at the 0:35 mark but not without controversy. Referee Jason Herzog came under fire for his “fast” stoppage while Teixeira was climbing back to his feet and may once again need to “re-evaluate” his officiating.
That led to some post-fight questions on social media about this “scripted” statement.
While a good conspiracy is hard to resist, the more likely scenario is that Lewis — a master troll — was performing his usual pre-fight comedy shtick and trying to give MMA fans something to talk about if he did, in fact, pull off the bookie-busting upset.
Mission accomplished.
“I just knew he’d been fighting tomato cans his whole career, so I appreciate UFC helping your boy out and also I need some more of them taxi cab drivers they got in Brazil for my next fight,” Lewis said after the fight. “I know them boys trying to ride a limo, but they ain’t going to get it on me.”
