Shohei Ohtani has found a new hobby in his spare time— writing.

Ohtani took to social media to announce that he, alongside co-author Michael Blank, will be releasing a children’s book centered around his dog, Decoy, titled “Decoy Saves Opening Day.” The story sees Decoy in a dilemma when he forgets his lucky ball at home, and must make it back in time for the start of opening day.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has started his second big league season as advertised, presuming the role of ace in the rotation en route to securing his first career All-Star selection.

Dylan Hernández of the Los Angeles Times credits his turnaround into stardom to his performance in Game 5 of the NLDS last year, where he carried that momentum into a dominant postseason run and beyond.

“I felt like I cleared a mountain... I think it was a really valuable experience,” he said. “Because of what I experienced, along with the advances I made from a technical standpoint, I think I was able to grow.”

The Dodgers enter the second half with an offense struggling to find its form as a whole, and with a pitching staff that had been wildly inconsistent and battered through the entire first half. Dave Roberts is aware that the team has to perform better overall, regardless of their current division lead, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

“I think the win-loss, the standings are great,” Roberts said. “But I think there’s just a lot of improvement that we need to do, we need to be better at... Good first half. But yeah, we should want to get better.”

Former reliever Joe Kelly appeared on the Petros & Money Show on AM 570 Radio during their Summer Tour, where he discussed the St. Louis Cardinals’ game plan for pitching to Hanley Ramirez in the 2013 NLCS and the aftermath that ensued.

Kelly plunked Ramirez in the ribs in Game 1 of the series, a move that kept his bat silent the rest of the way and lead to an NL pennant for St. Louis. Kelly made sure to clear the air once becoming teammates with Ramirez for the Boston Red Sox in 2015.
