The Chargers have just kicked off their first training camp session back at The Bolt since returning from their San Diego trip and it seems like a few veterans are getting a semi-rest day now that they’re home.
Per The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, safety Derwin James and edge rusher Khalil Mack are not participating in Thursday’s practice. They were seen joining offensive tackle Rashawn Slater who has been working off to the side with strength coach Ben Herbert for most of the past week.

Now this is obviously a bit of an assumption on my part, but it sounds like the most logical reasoning coming off of two padded practices. Mack was personally one of the most dominant players on day one of pads, so it makes sense that the coaching staff is allowing the elder statesman of the Chargers to have some additional rest before picking things back up in the coming days.
