Following a highly successful period during which the Giallorosse secured six trophies over three years, including consecutive Scudetti from 2022 to 2024, the winds of change are now sweeping through the Stadio Tre Fontane. After their bid for a three-peat was denied by Juventus last season, Betty Bavagnoli and the rest of the Roma leadership have begun renovating the Giallorosse. Although they haven't completely torn down the team, the club has made some significant changes. Manager Alessandro Spugna,
star forward Valentina Giacinti, and key goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar have all left the club.
We'll dive deeper into those changes before the season begins, but suffice it to say, Roma isn't resting on its laurels. Rather than banking on consistency to reclaim its spot on the throne, Bavagnoli and the Giallorosse have carefully plotted a course forward, surrounding Manuela Giugliano, Giada Greggi, Emilie Haavi, Lucia Di Guglielmo, and Elena Linari with a bevy of new, intriguing talents.
And earlier today, they made perhaps the biggest splash of the summer, signing former Juventus and AC Milan midfielder/full-back/forward Valentina Bergamaschi.
From the official club release:
AS Roma is happy to communicate that it has signed Valentina Bergamaschi. The footballer has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2028.
Bergamaschi has mostly played as a wing-back. This past season she was at Juventus and won the league title. From 2018 to 2024, she was a key player at Milan, where she made over 100 official appearances.
Born in 1997 in Varese, she has also collected 64 appearances and scored eight goals for the Italian national team; she was also part of the squad that competed in the Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland.
Valentina has chosen the number 23 shirt for this new chapter of her career.
Bergamaschi will join fellow Italian internationals Giugliano, Greggi, Linari, and Di Guglielmo as Roma looks to regain its top spot in the Serie A Femminile ladder.
