Per reporting from David Ornstein and James Pearce of The Athletic, Liverpool FC are set to complete the signing of Salford City’s 17-year-old striker.
Liverpool had looked like they were the frontrunners for the striker’s services about two weeks ago when they offered £100,000 plus add-ons, but it appeared like they were going to miss out when Arsenal entered the race and offered £250,000 plus major add-ons for the League Two striker.

However, it has now been revealed that personal terms were not in place with the player, with the player appearing to favour holding out for a move to Merseyside. Now that Liverpool have agreed on both a fee with Salford and the player, Wright looks set to continue his footballing education at Liverpool’s academy, quite a feat for someone whose development has largely taken place outside of the usual academy environment.
The 6-foot-3 striker scored over 50 goals for Salford’s youth and B teams in all competitions last season. Per Pearce and Ornstein’s report, the plan for him after the completion of the transfer is for Wright to start with Liverpool’s under-21 side, who Rob Page manages.
