It’s day two of the semifinals at EURO 2025 — Spain vs. Germany for the chance to face England.

After a long and tortuous road the German women’s national team find themselves again at the semifinals of the European Championships. This time, three years since their last one, the Germans enter on the back of back-to-back first-half red cards, two games where all of head coach Christian Wück’s plans went up in smoke in a flash.

Now Wück will have his toughest test yet, because this Spain side is not

only the defending World Cup champion from 2023, they have roared through the tournament looking like the best bet to win it all, by some distance.

But Germany have Ann-Katrin Berger, the woman of the hour, whose momentous quarterfinal performance lifted her ten-woman side over a pretty good France team. Spain, too, have looked beatable — if ever so slightly. Hosts Switzerland gave them a test with a stingy defensive performance last Friday, and the Germans themselves just showed how well they can sit back and play compact.

Oh, and last summer? These two teams met at the Olympics, with who else but Berger playing the hero that day as Germany won 1-0 to take home the bronze.

So strap in. This should be a good one.
