Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy has decided to stay with the club and intends to compete for the starting job at the left-back spot, according to a report published today on MARCA. Although Real Madrid would like to sell the French defender, the club has not received a single offer for him and it looks like he will end up staying at least one more season.
Mendy signed a contract extension last year, one which will keep him with the club at least until the summer of 2027. This contract also has
an option which could extend it until the summer of 2028 if he plays a certain number of games.
It won’t be easy for Mendy to be a starter for Real Madrid, though. Alvaro Carreras seems to be the primary option for that spot and Fran Garcia completed some encouraging performances during the Club World Cup, so Mendy will likely be Alonso’s third option when he comes back from his injury.
