Wednesday Cheese Curds: What unsung player will emerge for the 2025 Packers?

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Everyone expects the Packers’ stars to play like, well, stars. That’s why they’re paid the big bucks and get all the attention. Jordan Love should play like an elite quarterback. Rashan Gary should be an elite edge rusher. Zach Tom should be an elite tackle. And so on.

But teams depend on their non-stars just as much, if not more. The bulk of a given roster isn’t going to be made up of stars, but you still need solid contributions week in and week out, or else you’re not going far. If you look at

most Super Bowl winners, they’re often defined by a role player stepping up and making a play at a key time. Sooner or later, someone flying under the radar is going to have to emerge.

It’s early, but it’s worth keeping an eye on who some of those players could be on this year’s Packrers team. Brenton Cox Jr. makes his case in our first link today, but he’s far from the only one. Reclamation project Isaiah Simmons has the physical tools to make a difference, even if he hasn’t lived up to his draft status in his career so far. Carrington Valentine would make a huge impact in the secondary if he’s able to competently lock down one of the cornerback spots.

The list goes on, but chances are just as good that one of this year’s unsung heroes is going to be someone we haven’t even thought of — perhaps even someone who may not even be on the Packers right now. It would hardly be the first time a training camp addition to the roster has ended up being an important player, to say nothing of the guys who joined the team midseason to make a difference.

It’s just a matter of watching and waiting. Sooner or later, someone new will emerge and make a splash.
