Despite the beating they took in Sunday’s series finale, the Colorado Rockies find themselves winners of their first home series since last season by taking two of three from the Minnesota Twins.

Now the St. Louis Cardinals are in town with familiar faces Nolan Arenado and Garrett Hampson in tow. The Redbirds are 51-49 so far this season and in the hunt for a wild card spot. The Rockies, meanwhile, would like to get the series off on the right foot and pull out their second home series win of the season.

Starting for the Rockies is former Cardinal Austin Gomber. The veteran lefty is making his seventh start of the season and currently has a 5.65 ERA over 28 23 innings. Gomber hasn’t gone five or more innings in his last two starts, and is currently looking to rebound after a tough outing against the Cincinnati Reds where he went just 4 13 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. A strong outing against the Cardinals could do a lot to raise his trade value.

25-year-old righty Michael McGreevy is on the bump for the Cardinals tonight, making his fourth start of the season. McGreevy has bounced back and fourth between the big league squad and and Triple-A Memphis. In 21 13 innings of work over four appearances, McGreevy has struck out 16 batters to just three walks. However, he’s also given up 19 hits and has a 4.22 ERA in that time.

The 2021 first round pick has faced the Rockies just once before, giving up three earned runs on four hits and a walk over five innings last season. The sophomore has good extension and strong control of the strike zone while utilizing a hefty mix of seven pitches. He primarily uses a three-pitch combo that consists of a low-90s four seam fastball and sinker, along with a sweeper. Outside of that he can throw a cutter, a curveball, a changeup, and a slider with a whopping 12.8 inches of glove-side horizontal break. Most of his pitches—save the four seam fastball and cutter—have significant vertical drop to them.
