Breaking Down BYU’s 2025 Uniform Schedule

BYU football dropped their uniform schedule for the 2025 season. For the uniform enthusiasts, it’s always an exciting time.

In this current era of BYU football, they have a strong uniform set. One of the best in the Big 12, in fact. Yahoo! recently ranked BYU as having the second-best uniforms in the conference.

Let’s break it down game-by-game.

Aug. 30 vs. Portland State- the only navy game

It seems like more and more, BYU is phasing out its navy sets. In 2025, the Cougars will done navy just once,

it its season opener, and then not again all year. Last year, they wore navy helmets twice, against SMU and Houston (both wins). They are wearing the exact combination against Portland State that was on display in that game against Houston last season.

Sep. 6 vs. Stanford-white helmet (white facemask), royal jersey, white pants

This combo has some good mojo. Last year, the Cougars donned the classic royal home look, with white facemasks, in their thrilling, last-second win over Oklahoma State. In this writer’s personal opinion, this is BYU’s best home uniform.

Sep. 20 @ ECU- white helmet (royal facemask), white jersey, royal pants

Among the current sets, this combination is rarer than most. They didn’t wear the white helmets with royal pants at all last season. They last wore this specific combination against Liberty in 2022. For anyone concerned about curses and negative mojo with uniforms, the Cougars lost badly to Liberty that day, 41-14.

Sep. 27 @ Colorado- icy white with royal accent

This is another fan favorite. BYU trounced the Buffs in the Alamo Bowl last December. The team went with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” strategy by donning the exact same combo for their matchup with Colorado in Boulder.

Oct 3. vs. West Virginia- white helmet (royal facemask), royal jersey, royal pants

This is another sneaky-rare combination. When BYU goes with royal jerseys and pants, it usually just embraces the all-royal look with the blue lid. This time, they mix it up with the white, classic helmet and everything else royal. That has not been worn since their matchup with Utah Tech in 2022.

Oct. 11 @ Arizona- the “royal Oreo”

BYU fans love the “Oreo” concept with BYU sets- a colored helmet and matching pants with the road white jersey. Last year, they did it twice. This specific combination, with royal facemask, was worn against UCF last season in a BYU win.

Oct. 18 vs. Utah- royal color rush

It seems like, against Utah, the more royal the better. It clashes perfectly with Utah’s crimson scheme. Last season was something of a “color rush” matchup, with both teams going monochromatic. That looks to be a “thing” now, as BYU announced they will wear the same uniforms when the Utes seek revenge at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Oct. 25 @ Iowa State- royal “Oreo” with white facemasks

Last year, BYU suffered a crushing loss to Arizona State in these combinations. That doesn’t mean the Cougars didn’t look spectacular. Hopefully they experience some better mojo in Ames.

Nov. 8 @ Texas Tech- all royal with white facemasks

The royal with accents of white just pop so nice. The Cougars lit up the scoreboard against Southern Illinois last season in this combination, winning 41-13. Being that this is a road game in Lubbock, one wonders if the Red Raiders are doing some sort of white-out game.

Nov. 15 vs. TCU- classic home royal

When BYU posted this uniform schedule, the caption read “rocking the classics all season.” It doesn’t get more classic than the combination of white helmet (royal facemask), royal jersey, and white pants. They usually wear these at least once a year, sometimes more. Last year, they ran all over Arizona in these classics.

Nov. 22 @ Cincinnati- all royal helmet, white jersey, white pants

This is another combination that just pops on TV. Last year, it really came to life against the brown and gold of Wyoming. This will clash nicely with the Bearcats’ red and black kit.

Nov. 29 vs. UCF- royal helmet (white facemask), royal jersey, white pants

The royal helmet with white facemask is about as crisp as BYU can look. The equipment team seems like they agree, since the Cougars will don that specific helmet three different times this year. No other helmet combo will appear more this year. Last year, they wore this against Kansas in that unfortunate upset loss. They also wore it in 2023 against Sam Houston.
