Coming off a breakout junior season that saw him average 16 points per game at Kentucky, Otega Oweh is expected to be a leader for the Wildcats this coming season and a possible contender for SEC Player of the Year.
After opting out of the NBA Draft, Oweh decided to return to Kentucky and run it back one more season in college. Oweh and the Wildcats have been putting in work over the summer, and that included a scrimmage against the La Familia team filled with several former UK alums.
Oweh told Kentucky
Sports Radio recently he liked what he saw out of the Wildcats in that scrimmage.
“It was a great scrimmage, actually,” Oweh said. “Real competitive throughout the whole game. We was going back-and-forth, great energy. Obviously we got the win, so it was definitely fun.We have a good group. That’s a team with a bunch of pros, we held our own, so it was really fun.”
The reports out of the scrimmage were mostly positive, and Oweh was one of the top players for Kentucky as expected.
Playing against a team of older players, many of whom have played professionally either in the NBA, G-League, or overseas, can be a challenge, especially this early for a team with so many new faces, but the potential for this team to be really good is there.
