Is today the day that things will finally get better? The San Francisco Giants are on a historically remarkable run of ineptitude at home, and they’ll see if they can change that today. In their Friday night opener against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Giants suffered yet another creatively awful defeat. Maybe today they’ll alter the course of things.
Trying to stop the bleeding is right-hander Justin Verlander, who makes his 21st start of the season. Verlander is 1-9 on the year, with a 4.53 ERA, a 4.17
FIP, and 87 strikeouts against 36 walks in 99.1 innings. He got rocked in his last start, giving up 11 hits and five runs in five innings against the Washington Nationals, but he allowed just one earned run in his three prior starts.
On the other side is righty Adrian Houser, who has been exceptional in 13 starts this year, going 6-4 with a 2.84 ERA, a 3.74 FIP, and 54 strikeouts to 26 walks in 79.1 innings. He’s really struggled since coming to the Rays in a deadline deal, though, as he’s allowed nine earned runs in a pair of starts.
Enjoy the game! Go Giants! For crying out loud, please win!
