Real Madrid’s trip to the United States for the 2025 Club World Cup ended without silverware—but not without recognition for one of its breakout stars. Gonzalo García, one of the standout performers of the tournament, has officially been crowned the competition’s top scorer, claiming the Golden Boot with four goals and one assist across six games.
While three other players—Ángel Di María (SL Benfica), Marcos Leonardo (Al Hilal), and Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund)—also finished with four goals,
it was García’s crucial assist to Arda Güler in the group stage against Pachuca that broke the tie. As FIFA explained on its official website, the assist was the deciding factor in awarding the top scorer honor to the Real Madrid forward.
García found the back of the net in key matches against Al Hilal, Salzburg, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund. Impressively, he started all six of Real Madrid’s games in the competition and has now firmly placed himself in the mix for first-team minutes under Xabi Alonso, whose squad begins preseason preparations in just a few weeks.

Although García was not at MetLife Stadium to collect his award after the final, the recognition caps off a phenomenal individual showing on the world stage for the Castilla graduate. Throughout the tournament, his scoring, hold-up play, link-up play, pressing, and strength on the ball were impressive. He was a target in the box which Real Madrid desperately needed.
Other individual accolades at the tournament went to Désiré Doué (Best Young Player), Robert Sánchez (Best Goalkeeper), and Cole Palmer (Club World Cup MVP).
