Now that Bayern Munich is sealing the deal on Liverpool FC forward Luis Díaz, the Bavarians can turn the focus back to the other big summer transfer target in attack: VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade.

The up-and-coming German men’s national team forward has been in Bayern’s sights all summer but price has been an issue, with the German giants rebuffed in prior attempts to pry him away. There was even a report that Bayern was walking away from it all, one-sided as it was, although ‘for the time being’

always seemed like the operative words.

If Bayern is back at the table, though, Stuttgart is keeping mum about it.

Stuttgart sporting on Nick Woltemade and whether Bayern contacted Stuttgart again: “If there was contact, it took place behind closed doors. We won’t comment on that,” said VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth in comments captured by Az journalist Maximilian Koch (via @iMiaSanMia). “Nick is back [at Stuttgart training], we’re in contact.

“His teammates welcomed him with a smile, and he arrived with a smile. I think he was happy to be back. He’s making a very good impression. He’s in good shape. So we’re looking forward to him. What’s said publicly sometimes has nothing to do with what’s going on internally.”

Is it a good sign for Stuttgart that Woltemade is beginning the preseason with the team? Count on Bild to read deep into the tea leaves on that one. Via @iMiaSanMia:

Nick Woltemade arrived with his Stuttgart teammates in Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee today for a training camp. Uli Hoeneß lives about a ten-minute drive from there, while Max Eberl’s is even closer. It’s not ruled out that a meeting between Bayern and VfB officials would take place at Tegernsee [@BILD]
