The Mets upgraded at center field with their fourth trade of the week ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline, acquiring Cedric Mullins from the Orioles for a trio of minor league relievers: Raimon Gómez, Anthony Nunez, and Chandler Marsh.

Mullins, 30, made his debut with the Orioles during the 2018 season and had his breakout year with Baltimore in 2021, where he had a 30/30 season while hitting .291/.360/.518. Since then, Mullins’ bat has cooled off, but he remains a decent base stealer with 15-20 home

run power and plays a good center field, though his arm lags far behind his range in terms of skills. He is currently batting .229/.305/.433 with 15 home runs, 14 stolen bases, and 19 doubles.

None of the three prospects sent to the Orioles appeared on either Amazin’ Avenue’s top 25 prospects list nor the ‘other players of note’ piece from earlier this season. Gómez was pitching for Brooklyn, making 21 appearances with a 8.81 ERA. Marsh has appeared in 12 games for the Cyclones, putting up a 3.45 ERA. Nunez, the most interesting of the bunch, also got some time in at Brooklyn before moving up to Binghamton for 22 appearances. He’s got a 2.10 ERA with 36 strikeouts to 12 walks in 25.2 innings at Bingo.

This may complete the trade deadline for the Mets, who were also rumored to be looking for a starting pitcher. They’ve got just over two hours to make that happen.
