Knockout! Sheeraz Stuns, Violently Knocks Out Berlanga In New York

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Hamzah Sheeraz secured one of the biggest wins of his career earlier tonight (Sat., July 12, 2025) in Queens, N.Y., knocking out Edgar Berlanga — who was fighting with a huge local fan base — in the fifth round inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.

round, however, Sheeraz managed to clip Berlanga with a huge left hand that dropped him clean. Berlange bounced right back up before getting dropped once more.

While most didn’t think Berlanga was going to have enough to get back up, he did manage to do so and was eventually saved by the bell, though it was only a matter of time.

Indeed, at the start of the fifth round Sheeraz darted toward the center of the ring and clipped Berlanga with a left hook and then a right hand that folded Berlanga over, forcing his gloves to the canvas. The referee had seen enough and called the fight, giving Sheeraz a knockout win.

Take a look at some of the action:

Sheeraz improves to 22-0-1 and put his name in the hat as a contender for Canelo Alvarez’s super middleweight titles, possibly in 2026 if he chooses to wait that long. Of course, that’s assuming Alvarez gets through Terence Crawford this September.
