‘Poatan’ Sis Aline Wins Karate Combat Belt

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Aline Pereira — sister of former two division UFC champion Alex Pereira — has just earned championship gold of her own.

On Saturday night, Pereira captured the Karate Combat flyweight belt, defeating Fani Peloumpi via unanimous decision. This was Aline’s third straight win in Karate Combat and the first fight in the promotion that she didn’t end via KO or TKO.

Her brother Alex Pereira was on hand at the show to support and congratulate her. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Pereira party without a little

dancing, and the siblings did that too, accompanied by coach Plinio Cruz. Take a look at some of the highlights of the fight and the celebration afterward:

Aline Pereira has shown a lot of promise (and finishing power) in her combat sports fighting career. but may have been rushed along at points due to her relation to her brother Alex.

After winning two kickboxing fights under the Glory banner, Pereira was thrown into a title fight where she lost to champion Tiffany van Soest. She then jumped to MMA, making her pro debut in the deep waters of the LFA — she’d go 1-2.

Now she’s a perfect 3-0 in Karate Combat, and the promotion’s flyweight champion. Many are calling for her to make a jump to the UFC, but is it due to her skills or name value?

It’d be amazing to see a second Pereira put fear into the hearts of UFC fighters, but getting pushed into the top promotion too quickly seems like a repeat of what cost her losses earlier in her career.
