It has been three years since the USWNT traveled to the City of Brotherly Love for a match, but that wait is over. According to Jonathan Tannenwald, the team will take on Portugal in October 23rd at Subaru Park in Chester.
The game will serve as a celebration for the career of Alex Morgan who scored her first national team goal in the city. While the occasion will be one to recognize the career of one of the sport’s best players and a true USWNT legend, it will mark the return of players who will shape
the team’s future.
The recent friendly window gave manager Emma Hayes a chance to see new players and the different skillsets they can bring to the team. The October friendly will bring back players based in Europe who were not included for those matches. As the team continues to deal with injuries and absences, it will be an opportunity for the manager to see what personnel combinations work best and how they can be integrated ahead of competitive games.
