Daily Schmankerl: Arsenal plotting move for Bayern Munich’s João Palhinha; Liverpool looking to get Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Eintracht Frankfurt’s...

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Gunners back in on Palhinha (Metro)

If there is one player who Bayern Munich is more than willing to sell at this point it might be João Palhinha. Arsenal FC seems to have gotten that hint and is — allegedly — interested in the defensive midfielder:

Arsenal have held ‘serious negotiations’ to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer, according to reports in Germany.

There has been a flurry of activity at Arsenal in recent days after a somewhat quiet start to the transfer window, with Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga

AD

and Christian Norgaard all signing on the dotted line at the Emirates.

The Gunners are also working on deals for Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera and Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, while personal terms have reportedly been agreed with Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

Though Arsenal have managed to fill the void left by Jorginho and Thomas Partey by capturing both Zubimendi and Norgaard, it’s understood the north Londoners remain open to the prospect of further strengthening the base of their midfield.

A report from German publication Bild suggests Arsenal have expressed a strong interest in Palhinha and there was ‘almost a major transfer’ before Bayern got their Club World Cup campaign up and running.

However, that interest does not necessarily mean that anything is close to happening:

It’s claimed Palhinha finds himself high up on Arsenal’s shortlist of targets in midfield and ‘concrete figures’ have been discussed with a view to luring the ex-Fulham man back to Premier League football.

But at this stage, Arsenal are yet to come close to reaching an agreement for Palhinha and the Gunners have been forced to explore other avenues to bolster Mikel Arteta’s options in the middle of the park.

Bayern Munich seems to be a bit preoccupied with player acquisitions at the moment, but selling players like Palhinha, Kim Min-jae, Sacha Boey, Daniel Peretz, and others could be on the agenda soon enough.

LFC really wants Ekitiké (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)

If a bidding war breaks out for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké, Liverpool FC is prepared to outbid Newcastle United:

Understand Liverpool are willing to pay more than what Newcastle have offered for Hugo #Ekitike, and Eintracht Frankfurt have been informed about it. #LFC

There is no agreement between Newcastle and Frankfurt yet, despite advanced talks between Newcastle and the Ekitike camp.

⚠️ However, Manchester United are also still involved and are monitoring the situation closely.

Mourinho wants Coman (Goal)

Fenerbahçe coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman:

Jose Mourinho has given the go-ahead for Fenerbahce to sign Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.

Mourinho wants to end Fenerbahce’s 11-year league trophy drought and believes Bayern winger Coman would help their cause. According to a report by Ajansspor, Fenerbahce have received information that Coman would be available on loan, albeit with an option to buy. His performance has been evaluated by Fenerbahce, along with his injury history, and ultimately, the manager himself has given the green signal to sanction this move.

Coman’s salary is a massive issue for any club that likes him. While he still has a good reputation for his play, his injury history, huge salary, and bouts with inconsistency make him a risky gambit for many clubs.

Leeds could make move for Stach (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)

Leeds United could be ready to make a move for Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach:

New talks took place on Wednesday between Leeds and Hoffenheim regarding a possible transfer of Anton #Stach. Stuttgart have also registered their interest and held talks. However, the feeling at Hoffenheim is that Stach is set to join Leeds. #LUFC

Hoffenheim have not yet reached an agreement with any club. TSG are demanding €20m + bonuses. As revealed today, Stach has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Leeds.

Bayern, Barca will have to pay more for Díaz (Rousing the Kop)

Per one report, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona would have to pay more to Liverpool FC for attacker Luis Díaz than any clubs from Saudi Arabia, which seems...odd:

As mentioned, Diaz’s Liverpool future has had a question mark hanging over it for as long as many can remember. And now, as per a report from Ben Jacobs, it seems like a lower fee than the €100million (£86.7million) fee that was quoted on Tuesday would be enough to make Liverpool consider selling him.

The journalist shared that even though Bayern have been ‘repeatedly told’ that Liverpool don’t want to ‘engage’ in talks, that hasn’t stopped them from trying their luck. Jacobs adds that the Colombia international is seen as an ‘important player’ and that bids over £70million are likely to be ‘considered’ on a ‘case-by-case’ basis.

This means that if a team from Saudi Arabia made a £70million+ bid, Liverpool would likely come to the table. However, if a team such as Bayern or Barcelona came in with a bid around that mark, they’d likely have to pay more.

Milan keeping tabs on Vlahović (ESPN)

AC Milan is keeping its distance from Dušan Vlahović, but could be willing to strike for the Juventus man if the time — and price — is right:

AC Milan are waiting to see how Dušan Vlahović’s situation with Juventus unfolds, according to Calciomercato. The striker’s contract expires in 2026 and he wants to stay and leave as a free agent, something the Bianconeri are keen to avoid. The 25-year-old could be open to an early departure but wants a €10m severance package to be shared with his entourage — he would earn €12m in the season if he stays. Milan can only offer a €6m salary.
