Đorđe Petrović has completed his move to AFC Bournemouth, with the Cherries announcing the arrival of the 25-year-old goalkeeper on a five-year contract today. They are paying a reported £25m to make the transfer happen, with Chelsea booking a decent bit of profit just 24 months after paying £12.5+1.5m to get him from MLS side Chicago Fire in 2023.
Petrović would eventually win the starting job that first season, but last summer’s coaching change unilaterally undid all that and he found himself heading
to BlueCo sister club RC Strasbourg on loan instead. He performed quite well there, earning himself a Goalkeeper of the Season nomination in Ligue 1, even. But he was once again only offered a chance to be the backup at Chelsea. So he opted to skip the Club World Cup and look for a better situation for his career. Fair enough.
At Bournemouth, Petrović will succeed former on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who decided to join Arsenal in a £5m move earlier this summer. Bournemouth finished ninth last season, matching the highest ever finish in their history.
Good luck, DJ!
