The San Francisco 49ers removed linebacker Curtis Robinson from the PUP list ahead of Friday’s practice. Robinson played on every special teams unit in 2024 for the first three weeks of the season before he tore his ACL.
Back in June, head coach Kyle Shanahan lumped Robinson in a group of players that included Malik Mustapha, Brandon Aiyuk, and Kurtis Rourke of players that “sounds close” to returning, but he wasn’t expecting them to be back by the first week of training camp.
Robinson is a Shanahan
favorite. Last preseason, Shanahan said, “Curtis just gets better each year. He’s been here for a while, helps out a lot on special teams, runs the show as the MIKE linebacker. I’ve really enjoyed having Curtis here, and he gets better each week.”
The linebacker room looks much different this training camp. Fred Warner, Dee Winters, and Nick Martin are guaranteed roster spots. You’d think Luke Gifford is as well. That likely leaves Robinson to fight with Jalen Graham, Chazz Surratt, and Tatum Bethune to compete for that last linebacker spot.
