What a chaotic and wonderful game last night turned out to be. It looked like the Yankees were limping their way to a fourth consecutive loss and second-straight dud to begin the second half until the Braves left the door open for too long. A four-run sixth cut a 7-2 Atlanta lead to 7-6, and after Luke Weaver proved to be the exception rather than the rule with good bullpen work, Anthony Volpe tied it up with his second homer (his first career multi-homer game). Then in the ninth, more frustrations
cropped up when Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s bases-loaded screamer was snared at third. But Trent Grisham rendered it moot with a game-breaking grand slam just a couple pitches later.
Man, it was incredible. If you missed it (or just want to relive it), read Jeremy’s recap and watch some highlights! The Yankees have a long way to go this year and still trail in the AL East but games like these tend to stick in your mind — especially if it leads to something special.
It’s a quick morning for us here on the site, as after the minors recap, Sam will run through some pretty notable games from yesterday for the Rivalry Roundup, and Kevin will peak into the 2000 Yankees Diary. After the matinee against Atlanta, John will do the weekly Social Media Spotlight, chock-full of MLB Draft and All-Star highlights.

1. Grisham’s grand slam probably stands as the decisive moment of last night’s game since it was literally a go-ahead slam in the ninth, but what would you say was the second-biggest moment? There are many contenders!
2. Which AL team currently on the outside looking in at a playoff spot should concern the Yankees the most? (The Rays, Rangers, Angels, and Guardians are currently the first four out.)
