It’s not the exciting transfer news that Liverpool fans have gotten used to in this jam-packed summer of ins and outs. However, the Reds look close to finishing a good deal by selling midfielder Tyler Morton to Lyon for £15m.
The newly re-promoted Ligue 1 side has reportedly beat out several other suitors for the 22-year-old, including Championship side Ipswich Town. The contract will include attainable add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause.
Morton enjoyed a successful loans to Blackburn Rovers and Hull
City before making his first team breakthrough with the Reds last season. The midfielder received playing time in the League Cup, Champions League, and FA Cup.
He did not get any opportunities to play for Arne Slot’s men in the Premier League last season when the Reds took home the trophy. Considering the big money moves we’ve seen coming into Anfield this season, it seems unlikely that he would have found a way into the first team this season either.
A move to the financially struggling French side should be good for Morton, who has proved himself capable when given the chance.
The move isn’t official or complete, but it’s said to be in its final stages and should be announced soon.
