EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — All of the good feelings the New York Giants have been generating thus far in training camp temporarily vanished when start wide receiver Malik Nabers laid face down on the Quest Diagnostics Training Center turf three plays into Tuesday’s practice.
Nabers left the field and went inside with an apparent shoulder injury, but it appears he escaped any serious injury.
A few injuries to watch today: — #Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy appeared shaken up. — #Bills CB Maxwell Hairston is getting
ADhis knee checked out. — #Giants WR Malik Nabers left practice and will have his shoulder checked out, but appears ok, per me and @MikeGarafolo. — #Patriots CB…

A few other players did not make it to the of the second straight fully-padded practice, this one in scorching temperatures above 90 degrees:
- Running back Cam Skattebo went inside early in practice and never participated in team drills.
- Defensive tackle D.J Davidson hobbled off with an apparent right leg injury.
- Safety Tyler Nubin was helped off the field late in practice with an unknown injury.
Run-heavy again
For the second straight day, the fully-padded practice was run heavy. Until a final must-score period at the end of practice, probably two-thirds of the plays were runs, many of them from under center.
This is great work for both sides of the ball since the run game can’t be practiced realistically without pads or contact.
C’mon, Tae!
For two years, we have watched 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks struggle to find the football. During the “must-score” work at the end of practice, that bug-a-boo showed up again for Banks.
Russell Wilson lofted a deep ball toward the end zone for Beaux Collins, with Banks in coverage. Banks was in good position, but never located the ball and committed defensive pass interference in the end zone. We have see that same play from Banks a number of times in his first two seasons.
Banks also committed another defensive pass interference a bit latet when trying to break up a slant for Jordan Bly.
Banks said after practice that he is “just getting better every day.”
He is competing with Cor’Dale Flott for a starting job, something Banks did not have to do in his first two seasons.
How can he win the job?
“Just be me. Be better,” Banks said.
To this point, as illustrated by Tuesday, it is debatable if Banks is achieving the “be better” objective.
Your daily Dart
Much like Monday, there wasn’t a lot of quarterback play to write about or dissect. All the quarterbacks spent most of their time handing the ball off.
Dart did have a highlight play on his final throw of practice. He hit Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a touchdown on a back-shoulder throw of about 20 yards with rookie cornerback Korie Black in coverage.
Statistically, I had Dart 2 of 5 in 11-on-11 drills.
Alignment notes
- The most interesting thing I noted on Tuesday was that rookie third-round pick Darius Alexander did get a handful of first-team defensive tackle reps.
- Status quo for Evan Neal — some first-team reps at right guard and lots of second-team reps at left guard. Also status quo for the split of reps between Banks and Flott at cornerback.
Quote of the day
Evan Neal on accepting a move from tackle to guard:
Play of the day
This one came in 1-on-1 drills rather than team periods. Dart hit a lunging Montrell Washington for a touchdown of roughly 40 yards.
