Silly Season had been rudely interrupted by some actual football here in the middle of the summer for the last month or so, and while Chelsea still managed to get plenty of business done, we are far from done as yet — especially on the outgoing side of things.
And it’s not just the Bomb Squad who are looking at departures. The hills are alive with continuing rumors about potential interest in both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, though nothing too specific to get too worked up about at the moment.
Jackson was most recently linked to AC Milan but that whole storyline was a non-starter given the finances involved and Chelsea supposedly setting a £100m asking price. However, in reality, we might accept something a bit less: The Times insinuate that something around £60m could get us to the table, with Manchester United among the teams keeping an eye on things. Aston Villa are also credited with interest, and The Telegraph’s Matt Law claims that if they make a move, we’d counter with an offer for Morgan Rogers, because that’s how we roll in 2025. (And in United’s case, that counter would be for Alejandro Garnacho.)
Meanwhile, the BBC remind us that Bayern Munich are (still) keeping an eye on Christopher Nkunku, though they are in no hurry to make an actual move — and like with Jackson, Chelsea are in no hurry to deal either, at least not at this point in the window. We’ve got a month and a half still to go after all. The report adds that Manchester United and Barcelona “have all shown interest” as well.
So, plenty of speculation to speculate about. To me it looks like we’d probably be okay with cashing in on either Christo or Nico, but probably not both. We aren’t exactly short on options in attack following the arrivals of João Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens already, but we also don’t want to trim the squad down too much.
But if you had asked me just a few weeks ago, I would’ve said that it’s obviously Nkunku who’s going. Now ... who knows.
