MJF has his eyes on the AEW World Championship, but he also has sights on a different title. MJF wants to win the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, and he has a specific reason why.
During CMLL Informa on Wednesday night, they aired a promo from MJF. Maxwell was wearing the Mistico mask that he stole from AEW Grand Slam Mexico. He turned the nation’s biggest hero into dust, and he’s not done yet. MJF wants to take everything from Mistico. MJF noticed that there is one championship that means
more than any other to Mistico, so he wants to take that title too. Averno currently holds the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship. MJF referred to Averno as a big fish in a small pond. Maxwell wants to do CMLL a favor by putting the title belt on a real star.

Averno accepted the challenge. He plans to do everyone a favor and humiliate MJF in Arena Mexico. Averno warned that he will send MJF back in a wheelchair to the USA.
Even though the bout hasn’t been made official, it sure sounds like Averno will defend the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship against MJF on an upcoming CMLL event. There is a very high chance that MJF walks out with the gold.
Stepping back to view the bigger picture, the title win by MJF could set the stage for a rematch with Mistico in a championship bout at the CMLL 92nd Anniversary show on September 19.
