The Guardians and Royals will play a doubleheader today at 2:40PM and 7:15PM EDT, after yesterday's rainout.
So far, probable starters are still listed as Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee. I wonder what that means for next week, as the Guardians don't have an off-day until Thursday, so one of these guys would be due to start Wednesday on only three days rest.
In continued trade deadline activity, the Yankees traded for Ryan McMahon from the Rockies, and the Mets landed Gregory Soto from the Orioles.
Nick Kurtz went 6 for 6 with four home runs in a historic performance thrashing the Astros. Time for everyone who believed the Guardians, Reds and Rockies should have drafted Kurtz to take their victory laps. In all seriousness, he looks great. Hopefully Travis Bazzana will also look great, someday. We all know Kurtz would still be in Columbus for Cleveland.
This brings me to something else I would like to share - I have had a couple commenters attempt to snark on me for calling for DeLauter repeatedly to be promoted now that he got hurt. DeLauter getting hurt with an entirely new injury provides even more confirmation that he should have been called up earlier. No way to know if this unlucky break would have occurred in Cleveland, but he'd have at least provided more than what the Guardians got in the meantime.
Anyway, the Tigers lost their 12th of 13 games. The Blue Jays won that game and are the best team in MLB right now. I am mainly just sad that the Guardians didn't find a way to win that very winnable series against the Tigers earlier this month or this division would actually be a race. And if it was a race, we could all be even more ticked off at our front office for not promoting prospects or making a deal to solve the right field problem and how nice would that be?
