Roma’s search for a second striker to partner with Artem Dovbyk and/or Evan Ferguson continues, and a new name surfaced this morning seemingly out of nowhere. After being linked with Fabio Silva and several other players to strengthen the attack, the new hot name is Claudio Echeverri of Manchester City.

The 18-year-old attacker joined City from River Plate in January 2024 for €12 million and was immediately loaned back to his boyhood club for the 2024 Liga Argentina season. During that season—his

first as a regular first-team player—Echeverri scored two goals and provided three assists. He then returned to City in January 2025, making just one appearance for only six minutes.

This lack of playing time has Echeverri open to a move away from City, and Roma is reportedly in advanced talks to sign him. Echeverri has already expressed his availability to Roma, and now the Giallorossi need to get City’s approval. The move is said to be a proposed loan, but Roma wants to include a buy option—something City is reportedly hesitant about.

Echeverri is known as a playmaker with a natural talent for dribbling, quick pace in one-on-one situations, and a powerful shot. His playmaking is supported by his 6.56 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, ranking in the 98th percentile across the next 14 leagues. According to Football Reference, he also scores in the 92nd percentile or higher in total shots, non-penalty xG, expected assisted goals, touches in the opponent’s penalty area, and progressive passes—qualities that make him attractive for Gasperini's style of football.

This move came out of nowhere, but it looks to be progressing quickly. Now, we wait and see if Roma can get it over the line with City. If they do, Gasperini will have another exciting piece at his disposal. Stay tuned.
