Coming off the weekend, the Indianapolis Colts were back at it again on Monday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana for ‘Day 5’ of team training camp, and for the first time in full pads!
Here are some of the key takeaways from members of the local media:

Colts QBs Have a Solid Showing Relatively Speaking
Colts practice observations, Day 5 Best day for the QBs by FAR. Only real incompletions were drops. Anthony Richardson didn’t have a ball hit the ground in 11-on-11 and uncorked a few gorgeous fades Drops are still happening. Surprising to see from

Easily best day for Colts QBs. Anthony Richardson 6 of 6 in team sessions. Daniel jones 3 of 4. Michael Pittman dropped one INC.

Quick takeaway from the first day of full pads at #Colts training camp is that I genuinely felt like both quarterbacks had solid showings.
— Noah Compton (@nerlens_) July 28, 2025
The passcatchers held up their end of the bargain today (at most 2 drops) while the QBs limited mistakes. Great way to start real football.
Nice day for both Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.

50/50 split is the plan again this week.
Full pads the plan again for tomorrow morning.
HC Shane Steichen on a solid day from both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones:
— Larra Overton (@LarraOverton) July 28, 2025
“Both of them were solid.
Throwing with accuracy, rhythm and good timing.”#Colts

Punter Rigo in Midseason Form
Rigoberto Sanchez with a clinical showing in the team’s first punt period of the day. A trio of 70+ yard boots and a couple of coffin corners. #Colts

Returning Braden Smith Feeling Better Mentally
Braden:
— Mike Chappell (@mchappell51) July 28, 2025
*This is probably the best I've felt in a really long time.
*I've learned a lot about myself . . . I've got a great support system here and at home.
*(last year) Mentally, no matter where I went, I couldn't really escape what I was going through. https://t.co/b0FJsnh1hP

Other Colts Starting Wideouts Still Quiet
A really ugly drop today from WR Michael Pittman Jr. I'd really like to see him and Josh Downs pick it up. I wouldn't say either guy has performed poorly. Not at all. Just underwhelming, I guess. No Alec Pierce today. He's dealing with a foot blister but should be fine. END.

Colts Secondary Collectively Shines Again
Secondary continues to be impressive. The playmaking is something we haven't seen consistently for a while. Rookie Justin Walley had a nice PBU vs Tyler Warren and Cam Bynum continues to be around the ball, per usual. 3/

Some clarifying thoughts:
— Noah Compton (@nerlens_) July 28, 2025
Drops were running rampant before today, and other than maybe a couple of blatant drops, there were numerous instances of the defender jarring the ball loose at the catch point (good D as opposed to drops by passcatchers).
The DBs are legit..
More highlights:
— Noah Compton (@nerlens_) July 28, 2025
- multiple Camryn Bynum PBUs
- impressive from behind play by JuJu
- Jaylon Jones a little handsy but good coverage nonetheless
- Laquon Treadwell mossed Justin Walley
Not a lot of bad tbh other than a slight under thrown fade from AR to MPJ for an INT

Jaylon Jones Standing Out at CB2
First day of 1-on-1’s in pads is always fun, and Jaylon Jones just put on a clinic with four stops in four tries, including a fade he nearly picked off from Anthony Richardson.
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) July 28, 2025
The CB2 battle remains fascinating.

Walley’s World?
Perfectly timed coverage by rookie Justin Walley to break up a beautiful deep pass from Jones to TE Tyler Warren.

AD Mitchell Has Rebound Day
Two times in a row AD Mitchell beats Charvarius Ward big time in one-on-one drills. Second time is good for a 40-yard touchdown. #Colts #ForTheShoe
