The Los Angeles Rams’ signing of Davante Adams was a welcome move for an expected Super Bowl contender. Adams should put the Rams’ offense over the top and help maximize what’s left of Matthew Stafford’s career. This signing could make-or-break L.A.’s championship hopes, which is why ESPN expects Adams to make a splash in Southern Cal.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen ranked the top 50 NFL signings, trades and draft picks, and ultimately pegged Adams as the most impactful move this offseason:
“Adams is an immediate
ADupgrade over Cooper Kupp given his ability to still shake press coverage and separate as the “X” receiver. Opposite Puka Nacua, Adams can isolate to win one-on-one or attack the schemed voids in Sean McVay’s pass game.
With five straight seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards, he is at the top of this list because he can elevate a Rams team primed to make a run in the NFC playoffs.”
That ranking should not come as a surprise to anyone. Fans who watched Los Angeles last season knew the offense had a chance to be lethal, but appeared to be missing something.
Rams fans everywhere had better hope Adams is the piece to complete their Super Bowl puzzle.
The reason this is a make-or-break move for L.A. is based on recent free agent history, particularly at receiver. Back in the 2022 offseason, the team added Allen Robinson, which never panned out as the veteran wideout lasted just 10 games in Hollywood.
Adams is coming off five straight 1,000-yard campaigns and is coming off one of the most challenging seasons of his career. Despite all the adversity (and crappy quarterback play) he endured with the Raiders and Jets, he still managed to be productive, and that is why Rams fans should be especially hopeful about the addition.
The All-Pro came agonizingly close to playing for the Lombardi Trophy in Green Bay. Perhaps his return to the state where he dominated in college will bring better fortune.
