Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie has revealed he always dreamed of playing for Barcelona.
The ex-Netherlands star won Premier League and FA Cup titles during his time with England and was also part of the Dutch side that lost to Spain in the 2010 World Cup final.
He’s now revealed he would have loved to play for Barca during his career and admits a move was close once.
“I always had the desire to play for Barcelona,” he told Dutch sports podcast SEG Stories.
“In 2015, when
ADI had been playing for Fenerbahçe for a few months, Kees (his agent) told me that there was talk of me at Barcelona. It was a very real option.
“After a while, he called me and told me it wasn’t going to be possible. It didn’t happen. The truth is, I really wanted to join them.”
Van Persie has subsequently moved into football management and is currently the boss of Eredivisie side Feyenoord.
