It’s looking bleak for the Sugarland Astros. When they have an actual major leaguer starting a game they need to win, which they failed to do last night behind Hunter Brown.
Who would have imagined at season’s start that some guy named Colton Gordon would have to be the stopper. But given the Astros’ lineup situation, he’ll probably have to be very good if the Astros hope to salvage a win in this four-game home series against the Athletics.
There is help on the way. Spencer Arrighetti will probably
return in a few weeks, followed by Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia, although how well they perform after long layoffs, and in the cases of Garcia and Javier, severe arm injuries, is yet to be seen.
Here are the AL West standings. The Astros remain four games ahead but falling fast with the Rangers getting hot.
