Roster moves

The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40

  • Traded with Seattle: Sent 1B Josh Naylor, received LHP Brandyn Garcia and RHP Ashton Izzi
  • Optioned to Triple-A Reno: LHP Brandyn Garcia
  • Placed on the Bereavement List yesterday: OF Alek Thomas
  • Recalled from Triple-A Reno: OF Jorge Barrosa and OF Tristin English

That’s as succinct a summary as I can come up with for the transactions over the past couple of days: Izzi was not on the 40-man roster, so his arrival does not require a move. I imagine there will be quite a few others in the coming days, so I may hold off on a full 40-man roster update, until after the trade deadline dust settles next week. For now though, it’s English who appears to be the starting first

baseman, with Naylor gone and Pavin Smith currently on the minor-league injured list. I suspect he’s going to get quite a bit of playing time there, at least until Smith is fit, so this is definitely a good chance for him to show us what he has got.

I’ll keep this short, mostly because I was operating under the assumption that the team was still in Arizona for some reason. So I thought I had three more hours to get this written up. Damn you, Eastern time! Still that actual works out well on Sunday, since we’ll be heading off to the SnakePitette’s in late afternoon for a birthday dinner. Thank you, Eastern time! But I suspect that the games in this series are likely to overshadowed by HugWatch 2025, as we head towards that deadline, and potentially the biggest changes in a D-backs roster for quite a number of years. Get your popcorn ready, perhaps with a side-order of sadness.
