Did Daniel Dubois quit against Oleksandr Usyk?
“Dynamite” failed to detonate against the Ukrainian “Cat,” losing by way of fifth-round knockout last weekend in London (watch the highlights here). Following the bout, Dubois faced accusations of quitting, mostly from WBC contender Derek Chisora.
That didn't sit well with former
heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
“I keep getting asked about this Dubois situation, the quitting stuff and whatever else,” Fury said in his Instagram stories. “Here’s the facts: young Daniel did his best against one of the greatest champions that’s ever been and it wasn’t good enough, he come up short. He got put down twice, what do you want him to do? Die in the ring? There’s no first place for getting battered to f—k and still losing. The lad did his best. He wasn’t gonna win the fight, he’s better off getting out of there.”
Usyk also stopped Dubois in their first encounter back in summer 2023.
“There’s a lot of jealousy in boxing, especially when an individual is making a lot of money,” Fury added. “A lot of jealous fighters slagging someone off who did his best and had the guts to get in there. When you’re in the ring fighting world heavyweight champions, there is no cowards in boxing. All the credit to Daniel. He worked his bollocks off from eight years-old. Won the world title. Fought Usyk for the undisputed and now he’s sitting at home, multi-millionaire who can do what he wants.”
Fury also dropped a pair of title fights to Usyk in early and late 2024.
“Daniel, if you ever see this, chin up son, your dad’s proud of you,” Fury said. “Everybody’s proud of you. You’ve come from a kid to a man to a world champion. You’ve boxed at Wembley in front of 100,000 people. You can’t beat that, kid. If you ever want to do any training with a f—king real, straight man, come to Morecambe. Because there’s no jealousy here and putting other people down for doing their best. I call them dream crushers and jealous b-stards. That’s what you are. Dirty, jealous wankers.”
Fury ended his Chisora rivalry by crushing “War“ back in late 2022.
“The Gypsy King” has been angling for another Usyk fight despite retiring from the sport earlier this year. Nothing is official at this time but the power players behind the scenes are actively working to make this fight a reality for late 2025 or early 2026.
I guess that leaves Anthony Joshua with this unlikely opponent?
