OTM Open Thread 7/14: Derby day

Happy Bastille Day! It’s a good day to rewatch one of the most famous scenes in movie history and then get kind of shocked at how overtly violent the French national anthem is:

It’s also a good day to watch some big beefy baseball boys bash, because it’s time for the Home Run Derby! There are no Red Sox players participating, but here’s the field:

• Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners (38 home runs in 2025)
• James Wood, Washington Nationals (24)
• Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays (23)
• Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins (21)
• Brent Rooker, Athletics (20)
• Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves (17)
• Jazz Chisholm Jr., New York Yankees (17)
• Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates (16)

I think I’ll be pulling for Raleigh or Cruz here, though I also wouldn’t be mad about Byron Buxton getting some national shine after all of the injury struggles

he’s suffered through.
