Nate Diaz is not sending Dustin Poirier into retirement in the same way most of his fellow fighters are.

Poirier makes his final walk to the UFC octagon one last time this Saturday as he faces Max Holloway

for the BMF title in the main event of UFC 318. Poirier’s retirement fight takes place in front of a home crowd at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

Diaz and Poirier were supposed to fight at UFC 230 in November 2018, but a hip injury forced Poirier out of the bout. Ahead of the last dance for “The

Diamond,” Diaz gave his own sort of final thoughts about Poirier’s career in classic Diaz fashion.

“How about when DP pulled out of fight with me to get p*ssy surgery,” Diaz wrote on Twitter.

Poirier returned to the octagon the following April at UFC 236 and captured the interim lightweight title with a decision win over Holloway in their second meeting.

Since their fight fell through, Poirier remained hopeful a fight with Diaz would be rebooked, as he said in multiple interviews. Now it appears the showdown between Poirier and Diaz will be a fight that didn’t materialize as Poirier ends his career this weekend in a trilogy bout with Holloway.
