Simon Moore: 7/10
Made a couple of easy saves in the first half where he was mostly a spectator but was more involved after the break. Made one very good double save and a couple of smart ones, unlucky to be beaten with the last kick of the game.
Trai Hume: 7/10
Typically combative display from Hume, getting stuck into challenges but a little rusty with the ball at times. Got forward well and had a shot on target.
Dan Ballard (C): 7/10
Won everything that came his way and was really good on the ball, always looked to be positive and split the lines with
a pass.
Jenson Seelt: 7/10
This was a good test for Seelt and he looked the part alongside Ballard, comfortable defensively and, like his centre back partner, he used the ball well.
Niall Huggins: 7/10
Got forward when he could to support Adingra, including getting in behind to lay on a cross that Mayenda should have finished. Sevilla tried to target him defensively but he stood up well to it.
Noah Sadiki: 8/10
Patrolled in front of the back four and was a nuisance to Sevilla whenever they tried to go through the middle. Covered so much ground and wasn’t shy getting forward on occasion.
Habib Diarra: 7/10
Looks like such a quality player in midfield, always seemed to be involved in play no matter where the ball was and made some great runs forward to provide an option in attack.
Enzo Le Fee: 7/10
As usual, he was always looking for the killer pass, that didn’t always come off, and he made a great flick to set Huggins in behind but his defensive work rate was top notch too and that’s what led to his goal, latching onto a loose pass, rounding the goalkeeper and firing home.
Chemsdine Talbi: 6/10
A bit of a quiet game but looked tidy, looked to have an understanding with Hume already though and cut inside at one point and got a good shot on target.
Simon Adingra: 7/10
Was very lively down the left and often looked to cut into midfield and link up play. Bent one shot just wide but a very promising debut.
Eliezer Mayenda: 6/10
Was given a bit of a rough ride by the Sevilla defence and with no help from the referee but never gave up. Missed an absolute sitter from a Huggins ball across the box, even if the ball did jump up at him a bit.
Substitutes
Tom Lavery: 6/10
Filled in at centre back and did OK considering he was up against a good side and it’s not his usual position.
Jenson Jones: 6/10
Pretty good at right back, got stuck into the Sevilla side and was quick to try and get the ball back.
Zac Johnson: 6/10
Somehow found himself as the most senior member of the back four but defended well.
Harrison Jones: 6/10
He’s not a left back and Sevilla did well to exploit his positioning, always looking to get the ball over the top of him but he worked really hard to make sure nothing came of it.
Patrick Roberts: 6/10
A very quiet game for Roberts, as he had to help out defensively for most of the half.
Dan Neil (C): 6/10
Tidy in midfield as we sat back, used the ball well when he managed to get hold of it.
Alan Browne: 6/10
Sat in front of the back four and helped them out defensively.
Milan Aleksic: 7/10
He was one of our most dangerous players in the second half, making a few good runs down the flank. Won the ball well late on and played a good ball to Abdullahi.
Ahmed Abdullahi: 6/10
Not hugely involved but look good when he got into the game, had a physical battle with the big Sevilla defender and turned him once in the box to hit a shot into the side netting and then got on the end of Aleksic’s ball, used his pace to get past two defenders and rather than score he tried to play in Isidor but got it all wrong.
Wilson Isidor: 6/10
Some lovely bits of skill midway through the half and showed his pace with some runs down the flanks.
Man of the Match: Noah Sadiki
A very impressive first appearance in a Sunderland shirt for Sadiki, seemed to never stop running and had a knack of always being in the right place to get a foot on the ball to prevent Sevilla having an opportunity on goal. Got forward well at times as well, almost getting on the end of a Ballard through ball at one point.
