It’s MLB Trade Deadline Day. Not only will the Yankees play a matinee with the Rays today, but there will be loads of action off the field. Teams will no longer be able to make trades after 6 p.m. EST this evening, which means that all day, the rumors and transactions are sure to fly fast and furious.

As the day progresses, we’ll keep this tracker updated with the most pertinent rumors and the biggest deals that come to fruition. The Yankees have already made a host of trades, and hopefully, they’ll

come out of today with a roster that looks capable of returning to the World Series.

Rumors of the Day (July 31)

  • 9:45 AM EST: The first big trade of the morning: Shane Bieber is headed to Toronto. Jon Morosi reports the Blue Jays are sending pitching prospect Khal Steven to the Guardians.
  • 9:45 AM EST: Late last night, A’s manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that reliever Mason Miller is unavailable tonight, and that he’s not injured. The A’s might not be in a rush to trade the 26-year-old, who can’t be a free agent until 2030, but putting him on the market would sure things up today.
  • 9:45 AM EST: J.C. Escarra has been the subject of trade rumors, and after having been optioned to Triple-A, Francys Romero reports the Twins and Padres are interested in his services. Could the Yankees look to send Escarra to either club in exchange for pitching help?
  • 9:45 AM EST:: The Astros have serious interest in Sandy Alcántara, with Bob Nightengale reporting that Houston’s pursuit of Dylan Cease has cooled.
