The calendar is about to flip from July to August, with training camp hitting full stride for the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 7.
With the preseason
quickly approaching, and the regular season right behind it, excitement for the potential for the young Seattle offensive line is quickly building among fans. However, according to a report Thursday from Albert Breer of SI, the most experienced member of the Seahawks offensive line, Charles Cross, recently had surgery.

According to Breer, Cross recently had surgery on a finger, but hopes to return to the field in time for the season opener. It’s certainly not ideal for Cross to miss time during training camp as the team learns a new offensive system from a new coaching staff, especially given his status as the most experienced member of the offensive line.
Who gets reps at left tackle in Cross’ absence is now a key question to watch for during the opener against the Raiders. Veteran Josh Jones seems the logical choice, but the team could also give second year tackle Michael Jerrell some looks, or go in another direction entirely.
UPDATE:
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the surgery was to address a finger Cross had dislocated at some point, but had been practicing in spite of the injury.
#Seahawks standout OT Charles Cross underwent successful surgery to repair a dislocated finger in LA and the expectation is that he’ll be ready for the regular season, sources say.
