Tony Ferguson was supposed to make his combat sports comeback for GFL.

Unfortunately for “El Cucuy” (and a lot of other hungry MMA fighters), the promotion ran out of money and died on the vine, forcing Ferguson and his former opponent

to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Enter Misfits Boxing (MFB).

The former UFC interim lightweight champion will make his social-boxing debut opposite MFB mainstay Nathaniel “Salt Papi” Bustamante. They’ll co-headline the Misfits Boxing 22: “Ring of Thrones” pay-per-view (PPV) on DAZN on Sat., Aug. 30, 2025 at AO Arena in Manchester.

MFB 22 is topped by Darren Till vs. Luke Rockhold for the MFB bridgerweight strap.

“On August 30th, I’ll be stepping into the ring to test myself against a true legend of the fight game!!” Bustamante wrote on Instagram. “Y’all be ready…. This one’s going to be all action!!”

Ferguson vs. Bustamante is for the MFB interim middleweight title.

Ferguson, 41, has not competed since losing to Michael Chiesa by way of submission as part of the UFC Abu Dhabi lineup last August, his eighth straight loss in MMA. As for Bustamante, he’s coming off a knockout win over Kenny Ojuederie at MFB 19 in late 2024.

Expect more “Ring of Thrones” fight card announcements in the coming days.
