WHAT'S THE STORY?

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has had a somewhat challenging road after his stint at the University of Colorado. Allow me to clarify. Going from being projected to being a 1st round pick on draft, to not getting selected on Day 2 can be tough. Despite the fall and numerous reports questioning Sanders' attitude, he remained positive.

The Browns took Sanders on Day 3, despite already drafting a quarterback on Day 2 in Dillon Gabriel. Aside from the speeding tickets, Sanders has

been a model citizen and a breath of fresh air for a city that desperately needs some positivity.

When it comes to the on-field work, it’s clear that Sanders has talent. It’s not high-end, top of the draft talent but it is something that can be worked with. As soon as training camp started, fans were wondering why Sanders wasn’t immediately getting 1st team reps and consistently was working with the third team or not getting nearly enough reps as his rookie counterpart.

When asked about the lack of reps to start, he gave the right answer:

Sanders is taking the right approach. Depth charts throughout training camp are about as fluid as can be. Things change, which allows players to either move up or down the chart depending on their performances throughout camp.

If Sanders knows he’s not where he needs to be, that’s good awareness on his part. He understands that his time will come, and when it does, he will make the most out of it.

With Pickett being sidelined for a while, Sanders immediately vaults up the depth chart as his reps will likely increase to get an extended look. The Browns have a plan for Sanders, whether people like the plan or not, but the team has a plan for him.

Training camp isn’t over so Sanders has plenty of time to prove that he has a chance to be the starter for this season, and so far he has taken the right approach when it comes to to everything.
