WHAT'S THE STORY?

As you surely know by now, today, July 31, is MLB’s annual Trade Deadline.

After today, no trades of major-league players can be made. Teams can still acquire players on outright waivers or make minor-league deals, though.

As you surely know by now, the Cubs have made two trades already. Here are the front-page article links (and many thanks to Josh for covering these deals while I was asleep!):

Cubs acquire Michael Soroka from Nationals

Cubs acquire Andrew Kittredge from Orioles

will acquire someone from a team other than one whose games are on MASN.

In another deal of interest to Cubs fans, the Mariners acquired Eugenio Suárez from the Diamondbacks. At least he won’t be hitting against the Cubs for the rest of the year, unless somehow the Cubs and Mariners meet in the World Series. I think you’d be okay with such a meeting, unlikely as it might be.

This post is an open thread for trade discussion today. If the Cubs do make a deal (or deals), of course there will be front-page articles covering them.

As a reminder, the deadline is 5 p.m. CT. That means that teams must have trade paperwork filed with MLB’s offices by that date. Typically, news of deals can leak out for an hour or so after that.

Have at it!
