Heading into the 2025 summer transfer window, Liverpool were expected to make plenty of changes to their attack with Darwin Nuñez and Federico Chiesa widely expected to depart the club, which remains the expectation. Few, though, predicted a sale of Luis Diaz.
The Colombian international left winger had, perhaps expectedly, flirted with Barcelona in the past but all signs were he would stay at the club—and possibly even negotiate a new contract—as the season wound down. Now, it seems increasingly
likely the Colombian international will join Bayern Munich.
A bid of €67M (£58M) was recently rejected by the Reds, who have set a €100M (£87M) valuation on the player. A high valuation, to be sure, but one that reflects that as things stand Diaz has two years left at Liverpool and the club aren’t actively looking to sell.
It’s also a valuation that reflects a difficult and highly inflated market for attackers, with few seemingly obvious options for the Reds should they sell. Reports out of Germany today, though, suggest Bayern believe Liverpool are now willing to deal and that a compromise can be reached.
According to Bild, at least, the two clubs are currently in active negotiations and Bayern are confident of closing a deal for Diaz, with a final fee of around €75M (£67M) proposed. It’s unclear, given the earlier signals sent by Liverpool, if that would actually be enough.
Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo, valued at €100M by Real Madrid, as a potential replacement. Alternately, it’s possible Diaz’ departure could help to fund the signing of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who the club retain interest in despite the imminent signing of Hugo Ekitike.
