WWE took over Mexico over the weekend with a pair of live events, highlighted by the return of the country’s own Penta.
On Saturday night in Mexico City, Penta made an electric entrance. Joined by his daughter, he wore stunning warrior-inspired attire that appeared to pay homage to Mexico’s pre-Hispanic heritage — possibly Aztec, Mayan, or another Indigenous culture. Though he came up short against Gunther for the WWE World title, fans went loco for the highly popular luchador.

For Penta’s fans in the U.S., WWE posted his match against Grayson Waller from Main Event on its YouTube channel. The match was taped last Monday in Houston, with the full episode released Saturday on Peacock for streaming.
As seen in the video below, fans were ecstatic for Penta, not so much for Waller, who tried to put a lid on the crowd’s enthusiasm. As Penta began to recite his catchphrase, Waller clocked him with a right hand. Later, he dropped the Mexican superstar with a kick to the face that appeared to send a tooth — or at least some spit — flying.
But Penta rallied back, beginning his comeback with a body press to Waller on the arena floor. In the closing moments, he countered an Alabama Slam attempt with a Mexican Destroyer before putting Waller away with the Penta Driver.
As WWE heads to SummerSlam this weekend, Penta is notably absent. Given his soaring popularity, it would seem to be a missed opportunity if WWE doesn’t find a spot for him on the show, especially after his brother, Rey Fenix, made the cut. With this evening’s Raw serving as its go-home show before the summer blockbuster, it may be Penta’s last chance to earn a spot on the card.
