The Los Angeles Rams remain home at SoFi Stadium for Week 2 of the NFL preseason, taking on their housemates, the Los Angeles Chargers. Kickoff is set for Saturday August 16 at 4 p.m. PST. Both teams won their opening contests, the Rams dropping the Dallas Cowboys 31-21 and the Chargers knocking off the New Orleans Saints 27-13.
The two teams were supposed to meet in mid-week live scrimmage, but Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh cancelled, claiming that his injury list was too deep. In a complete turnaround,
Harbaugh later this week dropped the biggest news of the matchup, the Chargers plan on playing their starting lineups. It’s not expected to be extended work, but for at least a series or two. This includes quarterback Justin Herbert, who will see action in the first preseason game of his career.
The Rams are not expected to deviate from their modus operandi. Last week 34 players sat out and that number is only likely to go up. Sean McVay’s second and third team troopers, dominant at times last week, will face a much tougher situation against the Chargers #1’s.
Who to watch out for? On offense, look for QB Stetson Bennett to take another step forward, staying in command, distributing the ball, and moving the chains with his feet. The youngsters on the offensive line face a big step up in class after setting the tone in Week 1. On defense, the smallish off-ball linebackers, Chris Paul and Shaun Dolac need to navigate a physical offense and all the backup secondary players are in a roster battle scrum, looking to show out for one or two open spots.
