Early baseball today, so I’m going to keep this short. The D-backs’ string of futility has continued, even with the offensive outburst yesterday, of a whole two runs. While that did fulfill my pre-game prediction, it was another case of “be careful what you wish for.” Me: Can the D-backs score more than one run today? The baseball gods: Sure. You’re not going to like it very much though. Which is how we ended up with Jose Herrera pitching the ninth inning, in only the second double-blowout (10+ margin)
loss of the year - the D-backs lost 13-1 in Cincinnati on June 7. It’s “only” a four-game losing streak, but feels a lot longer somehow.
That might be because the 1-0, extra inning squeaker is the only thing keeping the D-backs from an eight-game losing streak. Over that time, Arizona has now been outscored by a margin of 11-38. It’s the worst run differential over an eight—game period this year. There was only one worse last year from April 26 through May 4, when the differential was a whopping -35. However, the D-backs actually won two of the eight games there, both by one run. The overall mark was mostly due to an ugly trio of consecutive games at chase against San Diego and Los Angeles, where Arizona were outscored 28-2. So stuff happens. If it could perhaps stop happening to the D-backs, I think we’d all appreciate it!
