In an interview with Marca, Jesús Vallejo opened up about his time at Real Madrid, reflecting on the mental fortitude required to survive at the club and the special memories that will stay with him long after his departure.
Vallejo, who spent the majority of his Real Madrid career on the fringes of the first team, emphasized the importance of staying ready despite limited opportunities.
“I knew how to handle (the mental work at Real Madrid) well because I like to train and be available when the manager
ADneeds me,” he said. “I couldn’t afford not to be prepared when the opportunity arose.”
While trophies often define success at Real Madrid, Vallejo said his fondest memories go beyond silverware.
“I enjoyed Valdebebas immensely. I’ll remember the titles, yes, but above all, the day-to-day work, the training sessions, my teammates.”
The Spanish defender also made a point to highlight Dani Carvajal’s influence in the dressing room.
“Carvajal is a natural leader; I’ve relied heavily on him.”
When asked about the most technically gifted teammate he’s faced, Vallejo didn’t hesitate:
“Rodrygo is the player with the most technical quality I’ve ever played with. He’s the one that made me suffer in training the most. In small spaces he was the best, by far.”
