Shavkat Rakhmonov’s wife and son survived a scary car crash that left two dead in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan on Sunday, local news outlet Kursiv reported.
Rakhomonov’s manager Daniel Rubenstein confirmed to MMA Fighting that the fighter’s wife and son were sent to the hospital after the accident and are in stable condition.
According to the Kursiv report, the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. There’s no information on the two people that died in the accident.
Rakhmonov has not commented on the situation on social media.
The 30-year-old UFC welterweight contender has not fought inside the octagon since December 2024, when he won a decision over late-notice replacement Ian Machado Garry at UFC 310. Rakhmonov, 19-0 as a professional, was slated to fight for the UFC title on that card, but then-champion Belal Muhammad withdrew due to an injury.
